JAMAH HANDBAGS: MADE IN THE USA

Expert craftsman making a custom, made-to-order handbag in JAMAH’ Los Angeles factory.

Why was building the first true American luxury handbag design house so important to JAMAH founder Nancy Gale? Growing up in Detroit, the epicenter of iconic American brands & families, Gale had the opportunity to witness, experience and learn about the benefits derived from manufacturing in the United States and the real value of American craftsmanship.

Gale did not subscribe to the misnomer that great luxury fashion houses must originate in Europe. The American automotive industry, an example close to her heart, manufactured innovative, coveted and finely crafted luxury cars for decades.

She knew that while no one could argue that there was superior craftsmanship in the US, the world was enamored with the allure and sophistication of European fashion houses, even though the products were often made in Asia. Contemplating the irony, Gale had an epiphany that the real distinction was in the language. In Europe, beautifully refined words including couture, craftsmanship and atelier lead a long list of adjectives that describe the world of fashion houses, while in America the same process is described as manufacturing, production and factory, not accurately reflecting the elite class of available American craftsmanship.

Early on, Gale knew that luxury wasn’t about a price point, but about the tradition of quality, attention to detail and superior artistry of the product. She wanted to lead the restoration of America’s history of homegrown luxury brands and give American craftsmanship the credit and status it deserved. And she wanted to do it using only the finest leathers and materials available, creating bags that were luxurious yet functional and stylish yet classic.

In 2000 Nancy Gale founded JAMAH, with the commitment of returning to the true meaning of luxury: exclusive, custom-made bags that could be passed down from generation to generation, crafted by expert artisans who take rightful pride in their work.

In her Los Angeles factory, master craftspeople assemble one bag at a time. With each design showcasing their combined years of experience, Gale analogizes watching the sewers to that of a beautifully choreographed dance. JAMAH’s attention to detail, impeccable workmanship and perfect lines, handcrafted with care and precision, make it unnecessary to travel across the world to find true artistry.

JAMAH’s made-to-order designs have eliminated mass production and restored luxury to what it once was, making it possible for men and women alike to purchase a bag that is truly worth its price tag.

True luxury takes time, skill, the best materials and patience. True luxury has nothing to do with trend and everything to do with style. True luxury is an investment that only increases in value. JAMAH is proud to continue the tradition of true American luxury.
